Merchant's house, one of an original pair. C17 but much
altered later. Render on timber frame originally but present
structure uncertain; steep dry slate roof, but of shallower
pitch over rear outshut; tall brick lateral stack to rear of
front part. One-room plan house plus later rear outshut.
3 storeys; 2-window range with C20 12-pane horned sashes.
Fascia above ground floor which has original heavily-moulded
oak doorway with restored carved and octagonal stops, on the
left (attached to the more ornate doorway of No.34, qv), and a
sash right of centre. Rear has shared gable with No.34 and
smaller gabled dormer to the outshut; sashes with glazing
bars.
INTERIOR: has been altered in the C20 but retains old panelled
doors and there may be some original structural features of
interest not visible.
New Street contains a high proportion of fine C17 and C18
houses.
