SX4654NW PARADISE ROAD, Stoke 740-1/55/679 (South side) Gate-piers, walls and attached building to Devonport High School for Boys

GV II

Gate-piers, road-frontage walls and attached building. Late C18 with mid-late C19 garden building. Coped Plymouth limestone rubble walls, granite ashlar square-on-plan gate-piers. Semi-circular-on-plan gateway for turning carriages, C19 gates. The wall extends along the north road frontage, and is returned for approx. 50m along north east side. The wall is returned along the west side, towards the now-infilled creek, and is then returned in a north-easterly direction for approx. 70m. The road-frontage section of wall has a C19 outbuilding attached to its south side, built of Plymouth limestone brought to course; hipped slate roof with hip-roofed central clearstorey; single storey, 3-window front with small window openings set high up; fairly wide doorway left of centre with planked door, all within dressed stone surrounds.
