GV II

Pair of villas. Mid-late C19. Stucco with stucco detail; low-pitched slate roofs with modillion cornices; tall stuccoed stacks with modillion cornices and pediments. Double-depth plan with entrance halls behind front rooms at left and right. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; symmetrical 3:4:3-window road front. Original hornless sashes, those to canted bays with margin panes. There are triple windows with moulded architraves, consoles and central pediments at left and right above canted pilastered bays with moulded entablature, the cornices linked to moulded string and surmounted by balconies with turned balustrades. Windows to other bays have moulded architraves, those to 1st floor with round flanking triangular pediments on consoles and the ground-floor windows have moulded hoods on consoles. The other elevations are also richly detailed: the entrance porches have rusticated doorways, moulded entablature and turned or panelled balustrades to balconies above. There are paired round-arched lights above the porches and similar windows over turned balustrades near the front and over rusticated round-arched niches. Windows to projecting wings rear of porches are like those to central bays at the front. Hyperion (left) has glazed lean-to conservatory in front of the porch. INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to reflect the high quality of the exterior. A complete and virtually unaltered pair of villas, one of a good group in Mannamead which was developed after 1851.
