GV
II
Includes: Warehouse facing Vauxhall Quay VAUXHALL QUAY
Barbican.
Warehouse on wharf with integral account house. Early C19.
MATERIALS: painted brick front to house, otherwise Plymouth
limestone rubble with segmental brick arches over the
openings; dry slate roof with very deep front eaves to house
with central gabled roof dormer and rubble stack on the right;
corrugated asbestos roof at right angles behind right-hand
side and returned to taller roof parallel at rear with hip on
the corner.
PLAN: deep plan.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attic to symmetrical 3-window house
front and 4 storeys to warehouse. 12-pane horned sash copies,
blind central windows above round-arched rusticated and
textured Coade stone doorway with carved head keyblock;
vertical glazing bars to fanlight and C20 door. Right-hand
return warehouse front is 2:2:1:1 bays: 2 bays of the house
end on the left with left-hand openings and attic window on
right blocked or blind, sashes similar to those of house front
below and doorway to ground floor below windows. Next 2 bays
and right-hand bay are similar with windows with glass blocks
to upper floors except top left which is blocked and there are
3 ground-floor doorways with ledged doors and blocked
round-arched ventilators above. The other bay has 3 loading

The combination of the account house and a warehouse make this
a rare survival of an unusual building type.
