Terrace of houses in planned square. c1815 by John Foulston, fronts of Nos 23 and 24 are rebuilt following damage in the Blitz. Incised stucco or render with sill bands; dry slate roofs except for asbestos slate to No.28, all with projecting eaves; stuccoed or rendered stacks over cross walls. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys; regular group overall with pedimented paired entrance-hall projection of 3 bays between each pair and with blind centre bays; 2-window range between each projection plus 1-window range at far left and right. Many original hornless sashes with glazing bars, Nos 19 and 20 with horned copies. Ground floor has round-arched openings with moulded arches linked by impost string. There are some original ground-floor windows with spoked fanlight heads and margin panes. Most doorways have spoked fanlights, Nos 23-28 have original flush-panelled doors. INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest. Part of a rare virtually complete planned group by Foulston. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Devon: London: 1989-: 674).
