SO9620SW CHURCH STREET 630-1/36/40 (South West side) 14/12/83 Wager tomb chest and four headstones 5-10m N of NW corner Church of St Mary (Formerly Listed as: CHURCH STREET (South West side) Two chest tombs to north of north-west corner of nave of Church of St Mary)

GV II

Tomb chest to Richard Wager (d.1661), tea-caddy type tomb chest and 5 headstones c1676-1735 (one of which is approx 5m to north of the group). Stone. Rectangular chest with heavy capping, inscription at west end; an inscription to north side indicates that repairs were made by C Higgs in 1871. Tea-caddy type tomb chest has fielded panels to sides and shaped top. 4 headstones: 1 with double scroll to head, otherwise 2 with cartouches with scrolled surrounds and 1 cartouche with 2 cherubs holding drapery, inscriptions eroded. Further headstone surmounted by central cherub's head between scrolls, the deceased d.1699. (Charlton Kings Local History Society Bulletin: 1986-: 6).
