House. 1806-8, restored 1987. Possibly by Thomas Billings, surveyor. Stucco over brick, renewed slate roof. PLAN: main range of 2 storeys and basement, 3 first-floor windows, service wing to left of 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows (part of this wing breaks forward). Plinth. EXTERIOR: main range: steps to central entrance a tetrastyle Doric porch, frieze, cornice, glazed-in and with double doors and overlight with margin-lights. Within a 4-panel door with overlight in plain reveals between 2 round-arched windows with margin-lights and etched glass. Two tall 6/6 sashes between 2/2 sashes, tooled architraves. First-floor band. First floor has outer tripartite windows: 6/6 flanked by 2/2 sashes, with 8/8 sash to centre, all in plain reveals and with sills. Dentil cornice, wide eaves and hipped roof with end stacks. Basement has elliptically-arched openings. Service wing has 6/6 sash. Garden facade has patio with balustrade with bulbous balusters and arabesque ornament to piers. INTERIOR: wrought-iron staircase; staircase hall has egg-and-dart and modillion cornice. Rear right room has moulded cornice with grape-frieze. 4-panel doors. HISTORICAL NOTE: the house was originally named 'Charlotteville'. Thomas Billings was responsible for The Park development in Cheltenham.
