House. C17, refronted 1776 (on datestone) under ownership of Charles Higgs with later additions including outshut to rear, and restorations. Pinkish-brown brick in English garden wall bond with renewed pantile roof. 2-unit plan, with single-storey range to east the former woodshed. EXTERIOR: one-and-a-half storeys, 2 gabled dormers. Entrance in east gable a C20 door. Ground floor has 3 C20 casement windows, that to left under elliptical arch, otherwise with flat arches; C20 casements to dormers. Large extruded and stepped chimney to west with cylindrical stack; further cylindrical brick stack to rear. Datestone has initials MB and MR. Timber-frame partly exposed to rear at left. INTERIOR: extensive exposed small panels of square timber-framing and tension braces. Room to east has massive chamfered tie-beam, corner post on stone pad. Chamfered tie-beam to room to west, inglenook fireplace with chamfered stone jambs and bressumer beam. Stairs to right of west stack, small amount of elm panelling to staircase wall. Some wattle and daub panels to internal walls. Jowled rear left end post. Studded back door, now internal. First floor: 2 levels of exposed purlins, exposed arch braces. Original partition wall has panels of timber-framing. Roof has collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen posts.
