Includes: Hopeholm WELLINGTON STREET. 2 houses, now flats and offices, with area railings. c1810-30. Ashlar over brick with concealed roof; iron railings and wrought-iron balconies with lead enrichments. EXTERIOR: Bath Street facade: 4 storeys with basement, 4 first-floor windows. Ground floor rusticated with voussoirs to openings; bands to all floors; frieze and cornice. Off-centre right entrance: flight of renewed steps to mid-C20 double doors with fanlight with decorative glazing, in channelled reveals. Blind openings throughout, except above door are 2 x 6/6 sashes and 3/3 sash; basement has C20 door. Wellington Street facade: rustication and bands continue as before. Central entrance, 5-fielded-panel door with fanlight with decorative glazing bars. Mainly 6/6 sashes, tall to first floor; third floor has 3/3 sashes; all in plain reveals, mainly with sills. Basement has 3/6 sashes and blocked entrance. Blind service range fronts Bath Street at right. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: spearhead area railings and gate continue to sides of steps; stanchions with urn finials. First floor continuous balconies to Wellington Street facade have intersecting circle-and-rod motif. One window box to first floor of Bath Street facade with bars. It is possible, given the stylistically early date with which the ironwork can be attributed (Chatwin), that this building pre-dated 1820. (Chatwin A: Cheltenham's Ornamental Ironwork: Cheltenham: 1975-1984: 27).
