GV II

House (No.53a now included in No.53). Late C18/early C19. Red brick in English bond. Paired hipped plain tiled roofs, with brick stack to right. 3 storeys, 1 wide bay. 2-leaf door to left, each leaf with 3 moulded panels. Door to right half-glazed with 4 moulded panels below. Overlight with marginal glazing bars over each doorway. Between doors early C19 shopfront with 3 round-headed windows divided by colonnettes; boarded panel below. Doors and window set between incised panelled pilasters. Cornice and fascia over. First floor: rectangular oriel window with 8-pane sash to centre, 4-pane narrow sashes flanking and to sides, incised panelled pilaster strips dividing lights, frieze and cornice over. 4-pane sashes to second floor under gauged brick flat arches, and with painted mural between. Ends of iron tie-rods. Brick band and stone coped parapet. INTERIOR not inspected.
