House. C18, remodelled early C19, incorporating earlier timber-framing. Red brick, mostly in Flemish bond, with rusticated stucco ground floor on plinth. Plain tile roof with painted brick dogtooth eaves and brick off-ridge end stack to right. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellar. 2-window range of boxed sashes with painted sills, channelled voussoirs and keystones, taller on 1st floor. Ground floor has shallow bay window to centre with renewed 2:6:2-pane fixed glazing and moulded cornice under leaded wooden hood with boarded soffit supported on wrought-iron brackets and extending over doorcase, on left, which has overlight and 6-panel door; further doorcase to right with overlight, part-glazed door and shallow step with nosing. Cellar grille. INTERIOR: not inspected, but reported to contain timber-framing. HISTORICAL NOTE: used as police station 1841-64 with cells to rear and courtroom on first floor and subsequently as butchers shop.
