Pair of houses, now partly offices. C17, much altered and
refronted late C18/early C19. Timber-framed, rebuilt in red
brick in Flemish bond. Plain tile roof with painted brick
dentilled eaves, no stack visible.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 2-window range. 1st floor: 3/6 sashes
with painted channelled voussoirs, keystones and sills. Ground
floor: two shallow bay-windows, that on left canted, with C20
multi-pane glazing; to each side, a renewed doorcase and C20
door with a segmental brick arch and stone steps. Painted
rendered plinth.
INTERIOR: square-panelled timber-framing with passing braces
in side and party walls; heavily-chamfered spine beams;
exposed joists; partly stone-flagged floor. The timber-framing
survives well in No.16, including chamfered joists, altered
roof pitch, rear cross-wing, and internal chimney which open
fireplace with decorative mantelpiece and cast-iron grate.
