Middle Lodge
II
Lodge, later house. 1840 by Henry Thomas Hope in Italianate style with later C20 side extension. L-shaped plan. Built of sandstone ashlar with slate roof with channelled sandstone chimneystack. Deep wooden bracket eaves cornice. Projecting left side wing has paired round headed windows. Setback right hand bay has ground floor round headed window. Porch in angle of the L with sandstone cornice and round-headed arch with keystone, impost blocks and pilasters which has been filled in in the C20 with panelled door. C20 flat-roofed extension to left in similar materials. Hope also made extensive alterations to the main house Deepdene House which was demolished in 1969 and built North Lodge. Middle Lodge was sold as a private residence in 1922-23.
