GV II
Pair of houses and attached railings to No.53. Numbered right to left, described left to right. c1820-34, with later additions and alterations including c1830-50 third floor; shown on Merrett's 1834 Map but not on the Post Office Map of 1820. Stucco over brick with concealed roof, brick left end stack and wrought-iron balconies and railings. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement, 5 first-floor windows (3:2), second floor has 4 windows (2:2). Stucco detailing includes frieze and cornice over first floor, surmounted by pilasters with sunk panels to ends and between outer windows; crowning frieze and cornice with blocking course. 6/6 sashes where original, in plain reveals and with sills, those to No.51 have sills with feet to first and second floors. Central entrances, 4- and 6-panel doors with lattice frieze and fanlights, that to left (No.53) has radial glazing bars. Rear retains several 6/6 sashes. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area spearhead railings to left.
