GV II

Pair of semi-detached villas and attached railings. c1825-32. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof, end brick and stuccoed stacks and iron balustrade. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 5 first-floor windows (2:3 with space for another opening between) and full-height service ranges to rear. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to ground floor and moulded first-floor band surmounted by pilasters to ends and to right of second window and to left of third. Paired entrances at centre, flights of roll-edged steps to shared tristyle Doric porch with architrave, frieze with triglyphs and metopes, cornice and blocking course. Within are 5-panel, part-glazed doors (upper panels raised and fielded, lower with fluting). 6/6 sashes where original in plain reveals and with sills. Basement has 10/10 sashes. Rear has bow through basement and ground floor to No.28 with 8-pane French window. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: balustrade to sides of porch has scrolled lozenge motif. HISTORICAL NOTE: Park Place was developed by 1832. Forms a group with and abuts Nos 20-26 (even) (qqv) and Nos 32-40 (qqv) (even) Park Place with No.8 Ashford Road. (Chatwin A: Cheltenham's Ornamental Ironwork: Cheltenham: 1975-1984: 34).
