SU 39 NE LONGWORTH Tithe Barn
1061/3/10002 II*
Barn. C17. Coursed limestone rubble. Stone tile roof with gabled ends with small carved stone acorn finials. PLAN: 7 bays with central threshing bay with opposing cart-entrances and porch on south side. EXTERIOR: Central doorways with plank double doors, the south side with large gabled porch, its cart-entrance boarded over. The porch gable and end gables have carved stone finials. Ventilation slits in walls. INTERIOR: Fine 7-bay roof structure with queen-post collar and tie-beam trusses and three tiers of tenoned purlins. The tie-beams are supported on short posts on stone corbels set into the walls, from which spring curved braces to the tie-beams. Queen-post roof to porch. Common-rafters intact, trenched into the middle purlins.
