Includes: Bardencroft TWEED STREET Saltburn. Villa. c1897 by Brewill and Baily of Derby for William L'Anson. Bright red brick with pebble dash render gable peaks; roof of plain red tiles with brick chimneys. Vernacular Revival. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3-window range with main front to Albion Street and entrance on left return to Tweed Street. Albion Street front almost symmetrical with 1:1:4:1:1 lights in high bay windows with canted corners, wood mullions and transoms and steep hipped roofs. All windows have leaded lights, some with opening casements and all first-floor windows abut overhanging eaves. First floor has shallow oriels on single central shaped wood brackets resting on roofs of bay windows. Full-width eaves projection over oriels, from which gable peaks rise in inverted W, with corniced Venetian window in each peak and moulded bargeboards. Quatrefoil rain water heads at gable valley and under eaves projection; cast-iron rain water pipes running through eaves and to right of centre. Single casements on each floor to left of centre. Steeply pitched roof has irregularly placed tall corniced brick chimneys on ridge and at mid slope. Left return has central gabled stair hall projection, with small light at right of projecting porch. Porch has brick side walls supporting wood structure with shallow-arched heads to front and side arches under steep hipped roof with swept eaves. Full-width window above has 9 lights arranged 2:5:2 with cornice supporting rendered gable. At left, 4-light windows, the ground floor with transom lights; one further ground-floor light; at right small single light and smaller 2-light windows all under brick relieving arches. INTERIOR: not inspected. (The Builder: 6 March 1897: London).
