GV II

Entrance building to Saltburn Pier (qv). 1925. Built as a theatre and dance hall, converted to cafe 1951, now amusement arcade; refurbished 1978-9 for Langbaurgh District Council. Timber-framed with Welsh slate roof and pierced terracotta cresting. EXTERIOR: 3 ranges with gables to promenade. Diagonal bracing to most panels. Projecting square bay with pent roof to each gable, the central with open front and the outer with upper glazing bars. Bargeboards, composed of pendant sections, continue along returns. Central roof higher. All three have pierced tile cresting, the outer with turned finials. INTERIOR: not inspected. Included for group value as part of this important pier.
