2 terraced houses and attached area railings. Numbered right to left, described left to right. c1820-34, shown on Merrett's Map of 1834. Stucco over brick with mock slate roof and 4 tall left end and party-wall brick and stucco stacks; iron railings. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with basement, 6 first-floor windows. Stucco detailing includes 3 incised lines between ground and first floors; crowning frieze, cornice and blocking course. 6/6 sashes where original, all in plain reveals and with sills. Entrances to right: flight of 7 roll-edged steps to 5-panel (left) and part-glazed door (right) (upper panels raised and fielded, lower panels flush) with fanlights, that to left has batwing and circle type glazing bars. Further entrance to right basement a c1980 glazed door. Rear: No 39 has full-height bow with 6/6 sash curved on section to first floor, ground floor has 8-pane French window with margin-lights and sidelights, all curved on section; also a round-arched staircase window (now with casement). No.37 has 6/6 sashes. Right return is canted (to Albert Place): 2 first-floor windows; stucco detailing continues from main facade; ground floor has canted bay with 1/1 sashes, first floor has blind opening and 6/6 sash, all in plain reveals and with sills. INTERIOR: noted as having retained original joinery including panelled shutters to some windows. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings to sides of steps and areas, with gates, have 2 levels of arrowhead bars and dogbars with anthemion finials to stanchions. Forms a group with Nos 41 and 43, Prestbury Road (qv) and No.2 Albert Place (qv).
