Pair of semi-detached villas with attached wall, piers and railings. 1838-9. By Abraham Tyler, builder, who completed many houses in Pittville. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof and stucco party-wall stacks; iron verandah to No.60. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 6 first-floor windows, with attached 2-low-storey bay at right. Stucco detailing includes continuous ground-floor sills band; first-floor band surmounted by 3 Doric pilasters between central windows. 2/2 horizontal-pane windows where original, all in plain reveals and with sills. Bay to right has 4/4 sashes. Basement has 6/6 sashes. End entrances: flights of steps to 4-panel doors with sidelights and divided overlights. Wide eaves. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: verandah to right has x-and-circle motif to uprights and openwork frieze. Window boxes to No.58 have X-motif. Wall approx 2m high to left with pier shared with No.56 (qv). Dividing arrowhead railings. HISTORICAL NOTE: built as part of the development of this area undertaken for Joseph Pitt in 1835-42, the general layout being designed by the architect John Forbes. Nos 34-60 (even) Prestbury Road (qqv) form a group of semi-detached villas. (Blake S: Pittville: 1824-1860: Cheltenham: 1988-: 74-75).
