Includes: No.15 Priory Lawn LONDON ROAD. Villa, now club. c1790-1820 (shown on The Post Office Map of 1820) probably with c1820s extension to rear; and with further single-storey extension of 1958. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof and end stucco stacks. Picturesque Gothic style. Double depth plan, the rear range taller and with rear right stairwell. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 1:3:1 first-floor windows, the outer bays set back slightly. Stucco detailing includes tooled architraves to windows with hoodmoulds over. Plinth. Ground floor has central canted bay with 3- and 2-light ogeed windows, otherwise 2-light ogeed straight-headed casement windows with hoodmoulds. Former entrance to right, now blocked but with similar ogee-headed surround. Entrance now to left, a C20 door with overlight. Wide eaves. Rear has full-height bow to right. Right return: further blocked and ogeed opening with straight-headed hoodmould. 6/6 round-arched staircase window, 6/6 sash with radial glazing bars to head. INTERIOR: retains original joinery including panelled shutters; some 6-panel doors; dogleg staircase has rod and bobbin balusters and wreathed handrail; plasterwork in hall has acanthus modillions and fleurons, ballroom at rear has egg-and-dart and c-scroll frieze with ceiling rose. Front part has simple cornices; cellar has Regency fireplaces. Occupies an important site fronting onto London Road, a major approach road into Cheltenham. (Post Office Map: 1820-).
