Terraced house, now shop. c1820-40 with later alterations including conversion to shop probably pre-1845; c1980s shop front. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and right end stack. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic and 3 first-floor windows and 3-lower-storey service range to rear. First floor: 2 right windows in breakforward, which has first-floor band and tooled sill band. Continuous entablature over first floor; cornice over second floor, blocking course and copings. First floor has 6/6 sashes; second floor has 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes. Late C20 glazed shop front and entrance to ground floor. Left return has 4 first-floor windows: three 1/1 sashes and blind opening. 1/1 sash to attic. Entrance to return a 6-panel door has overlight with margin-lights. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: The Promenade was laid out in 1818 as a tree-lined avenue from the Colonnade in the High Street to the Sherborne Spa (on the site of the Queen's Hotel (qv)). By 1826 it was a carriage drive with spacious gravelled walk on each side. Although originally on either side were 'rows of elegant houses,' by 1845 when Rowe wrote his Cheltenham Guide (published 1850) he noted that 'nearly the whole of the left-hand (SE) side .. is devoted to professional or business establishments'. Occupies a corner site with Little Promenade.
