GV II
4 terraced houses, now offices and attached railings to Nos 5, 6 and 7. c1834-40. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and brick and stucco end and party-wall stacks with cornices; wrought-iron railings and balconies with lead tassels. Double-depth plan with right side hallways. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys on basement, 12 first-floor windows (3 per house). Stucco detailing includes ground-floor rustication drawn into voussoirs over cambered-arched openings; first-floor band; crowning entablature and blocking course. 6/6 sashes throughout, those to first floor are taller, those to ground floor have cambered heads; all in plain reveals and with sills. Basement has replacement windows. Entrances to right: flights of roll-edged steps to 4-panel doors with sidelights and cambered overlights with decorative vertical glazing bars. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: individual balconies to first floor windows have lozenge pattern, derived from LN Cottingham, plate 16. Railings abutting to left have pointed bars and dogbars; arrowhead area railings to No.6 and to sides of steps. Railings remain to sides of steps to Nos 5 and 7 with sticks and X-motif. HISTORICAL NOTE: shown as laid out but not built on Merrett's Map of 1834. Forms a group with Nos 2, 3 and 4 Ormond Terrace, Regent Street (qv) and Madame Wright's, 1 Ormond Place (qv).
