Includes: No.2 JENNER WALK. Terraced house. c1805-1822. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and stucco ridge stack; wrought-iron porch, window box and balcony. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys on basement, 2 first-floor windows. 6/6 sashes in plain reveals and with sills. Basement has casement window. Entrance to left, steps to 6-panel door with fanlight with Gothic glazing bars. Low parapet with copings. INTERIOR: retains dogleg staircase with stick balusters, otherwise not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: porch has interlaced oval and scroll motif with circle motif to uprights, surmounted by elliptical first-floor balcony with rod and central circle motif, similar motif to individual first-floor balcony at right; this motif is also on Nos 11, 15, 17, 31 and 37, St George's Place (qv). HISTORICAL NOTE: building along the west side of St George's Place commenced in 1805; originally known as Stills Lane, it was the only road connecting the High Street Royal Well Spa before the Promenade. Nos 27 (qv), 31 (qv) and 33 St George's Place occupy a short spur leading to Cheltenham Chapel, St George's Square (qv); this stretch is now also known as Jenner Walk, in memory of the Spa town's famous Dr Jenner, who lived at No.22 St George's Place, since demolished. (Chatwin A: Cheltenham's Ornamental Ironwork: Cheltenham: 1975-1984: 19).
