GV II
House and attached railings. c1826-32 with c1980s alterations including lowering of roof. Stucco over brick with slate roof and wrought- and iron verandah and railings. PLAN: double-depth with double-pitch roof and central hallway. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3 first-floor windows with 2-storey, single-window ranges set back to sides. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to ground floor; first- and second-floor bands. Ground and first floors have 6/6 sashes, taller to main range; second floor has 3/3 sashes; all in plain reveals and with sills. Basement has C20 windows. Central entrance, steps to 5-panel door with sidelights and elliptical fanlight with batwing and circle motif. Side ranges have low parapet which ramps upwards to main range. 2 gables remain to right return, but the roof has been lowered. Rear retains 6/6 sashes and tripartite 6/6 between 2/2 sash. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: long verandah in trellis pattern with border of circles and uprights with quatrefoil motif. Area railings have scrolled lozenge motif. Otherwise railings and gates have anthemion motif, with arrowhead railings to sides of steps. (Chatwin A: Cheltenham's Ornamental Ironwork: Cheltenham: 1975-1984: 24,59).
