II
Terraced cottage. c1818. Stucco over brick with low-pitched slate roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. 2/2 sashes. Central half-glazed door with bracketed wooden gabled head which has fretted barge-board. INTERIOR: the importance of this house lies in its contemporary wall paintings: on the ground floor in the front room over the fireplace a version of the Montpellier Rotunda dated 1822 with a Pantheon-type dome close to the one as executed; in the alcove by the chimney breast is an unidentified villa with a thermal lunette in the pedimented central gable. These murals are a surprising survival and quite important in showing a variant design for the Montpellier Spa. (List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest: Department of the Environment: Borough of Cheltenham: 1983-).
