Pair of shops with flats over. c1820-34. Ashlar over brick with brick end stacks. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 4 first-floor windows with blind entrance ranges set back to either side. The ends of the projecting range are curved on plan. First floor has four 1/1 sashes, those 2 to ends curved on plan. Crowning entablature and blocking course with copings. End entrances: 6-panel doors with overlights. Shop fronts have end entrances with part-glazed 6-panel doors and overlights with margin-lights within pilastered surround and with embellished corner brackets; plate-glass windows with Doric pilasters between. Further end entrance to No.17 a 5-panel door. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: shown on Merrett's 1834 Map but not on the Post Office Map of 1820. An important surviving fine C19 commercial facade with bowed corners. Adjoins No.15 (qv). (Merrett HS: Plan of the Town of Cheltenham: 1834-).
