GV II

Pair of semi-detached villas and attached railings. c1826-30. Stucco over brick with brick and stucco central stack with cornice, iron railings and balcony. Double-depth plan with side halls and full-height service range to rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 6 first-floor windows (3:3). Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to ground floor and flat arches over openings; first-floor band; first-floor elliptically-arched architraves with sills on feet; frieze with wide eaves on brackets and incised panels between. First floor has elliptically-arched 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes; ground floor has 1/1 sashes. End entrances, flights of roll-edged steps to set back 4-panel doors with sidelights and overlight. Rear retains 6/6 and 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes. Returns have 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes. INTERIOR: retain original joinery including panelled shutters, otherwise not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings to sides of steps with wreathed handrail and continuous ground-floor balconies all have alternate rods and embellished rods. Nos 3-19 (odd) and 4-18 (even) (qv) form a group.
