SD7109SE MAWDSLEY STREET 797-1/17/153 (West side) 26/04/74 Former County Court (Formerly Listed as: MAWDSLEY STREET County Court)

GV II

County court, later benefit offices, as of 1996 public house and restaurant. 1866-9, by either Thomas Charles Sorby, the County Surveyor (Pevsner), or Reeves, the government's surveyor of County Courts (Bolton Journal). Ashlar, rusticated to ground floor, with slate roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 10-window range. Entrances each side, paired panelled and studded doors, in stressed architraves. Similar architraves to 12-pane iron-framed windows, and all openings have initials 'V.R.'. Superimposed on foliate key-stones. Round arched upper windows with balustrading, Corinthian capitals to engaged shafts carrying scallop moulded arches. Modillion eaves cornice. Rear elevation is brick, with round arched windows at first floor, lighting court room. INTERIOR: not inspected. (Bolton Journal (Pictorial Bolton Series, CLXVIII): 1888-).
