GV II
House. c1870s. Probably by J Middleton. Red brick with purple brick banding and ashlar dressings; decorative tile roof and tall brick end and ridge stacks with cornices. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3 gabled bays, that to left is taller and breaks forwards. Central entrance, pointed plank door with double-chamfered head and arch of alternately-coloured voussoirs. To left a 3-light, and to right a 4-light mullion-and-transom window with cusped upper lights, ashlar surrounds and voussoirs over. First floor has 3-light, 1-light and 2-light mullion windows with cusped heads. Decorative barge-boards and finials to gables. Left (garden) front has rectangular bay and similar windows. INTERIOR: reputed to retain original plasterwork and joinery. A good Victorian design in an otherwise Regency square, set around an open lawned area. Makes a significant contribution to a fine group of buildings in Wellington Square, closing off its north-east corner.
