Terrace of 3 houses. 1838-9, and 1840 (Wellesley House). Stucco over brick with concealed roof, end and party-wall brick and stucco stacks and wrought-iron verandahs, balcony and iron railings. Double depth plan with side hallways. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement, 9 first-floor windows (3 per house). Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to ground floor drawn into voussoirs over openings. Elliptically-arched recesses to windows. Crowning entablature and blocking course. 6/6 sashes throughout, taller to first floor, all in plain reveals and with sills and most with blind boxes; basement has 8/8 sashes. Entrances to right, left and right, flights of steps to 4-panel, part-glazed doors with sidelights and overlights with margin-lights. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: spearhead railings to sides of steps. Verandahs to right and continuous balcony to left at first floor have Carron Company single heart and anthemion motif, verandahs have scrolled lozenge with openwork friezes and tent roofs. All the listed buildings in Wellington Square form a good group, laid out around a grassed central area. (Blake S: Pittville: 1824-1860: Cheltenham: 1988-: 65).
