Gateway to Bishop's Palace. c1500. Built for Bishop William Smith, 1496-1514. Ashlar with plain tile wall coping. Coved string course, crenellated parapet. Single storey. L-plan. East side has a four-centred archway with hoodmould. North side has a small chamfered pointed recess. (Buildings of England : Lincolnshire: Pevsner N: Lincolnshire: London: 1989-: 488).
