GV II

Road bridge. 1805 by John Rennie, altered 1972 by Department
of Transport. Gritstone ashlar. Single span elliptical arch
with rustications, parapet ledge with broad rustications,
parapet end piers with raked coping, central panel slightly
advanced with recessed panel and moulded coping.
This bridge was constructed as part of a comprehensive scheme
to reclaim the East, West and Wildmore Fens between 1803 and
1813.
The south side of the bridge was taken down and rebuilt using
the original materials and to the same design in 1972 for a
road widening scheme.
