Swing bridge for docks railway. 1882-4 by Handysides the Derby
Ironfounders. Segmental panelled iron sides with central
circular pier, set on timber piled platform. Hydraulically
opened from control cabin on west bank with manual control at
the centre of the bridge.
HISTORY: it was constructed to connect the docks single track
railway to the Great Northern Line, when the docks created in
1884, in order to cross the Haven. The bridge was
prefabricated in the works and arrived in Boston in a partly
assembled state in November 1882. The dock was opened on 15th
December 1884.
