Carpenters Arms Public House

GV II

Public house. Early C19 with later C19 alterations. Red/brown
brick and smooth red brick, part hipped pantile roof with 2
gable and single ridge stacks.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys 3-bay front with late C19 saloon bar front
with 2 half-glazed panelled doors with narrow overlights,
flanked by plain pilasters, the right-hand door is flanked by
single plain sashes with pilasters. The left-hand door has a
similar arrangement to the left. The 10 pilasters support a
continuous fascia with console. To 1st floor 3 glazing bar
sashes and to 2nd floor 3 smaller similar windows.
The return to Union Street has a plain sash and half-glazed
door, with pilasters supporting shorter similar fascia and
console to front. To the left a tall stair window, and above a
further glazing bar sash. To 2nd floor a glazing bar sash and
a Yorkshire sash. All sashes have brick segmental heads.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
This public house was first licensed in 1875.
