34B York Way, N1, LB Islington

Warehouse. 1873 by Thomas Marsh Nelson and William Harvey, architects. Yellow stock brick with stone dressings. Three bay, two storey street elevation with arched windows (blocked at time of inspection), segmental arched carriage entrance with keystone; moulded impost band at ground floor level; moulded string course over fascia board at first floor level; projecting brick piers between upper windows; eaves cornice with heavy brackets.
Interior: two rows of cast iron columns support I beams carrying first floor. Upper floor retains a composite roof with hipped ends of timber carried on tension-braced iron tie- and king-rods spanning entire width of the warehouse. Glazed lantern above.
History: this warehouse originally served the adjoining black lead and blue manufactory in Albion Yard. The highly unusual roof structure is a notable survival.
