House, later offices. Probable C15 three bay open hall built at right angles to East Street, the northern bay incorporated into a C16 north wing, the south bay incorporated into the chimney bay of a C17 south extension probably heightened in C18, the whole refonted in stucco with incised lines, refenestrated and refurbished in the early C19 and west side refronted in brick and tilehanging, refenestrated, partially refurbished and a south wing added c1900 in Arts Crafts style. North and central wings timberframed but refronted in stucco except for west front and south wing which are of red brick on the ground floor and tile-hung above. Tiled roof, steeply pitched with gablet to north, hipped to west, gabled to east and south and with massive clustered brick chimneystack to central part and smaller plain brick chimneystack to south wing. Two storeys and attics; irregular fenestration. Irregular plan.
EXTERIOR: Front or north range stuccoed with incised lines to imitate masonry and steeply pitched tiled roof with gablet. Each floor has two 12-pane sashes and right side C19 four-panelled door. Attached to the north east corner is a late C19 gabled entrance with end brick piers and round-headed arch with keystone, set back two-panelled doors and an C18 section of garden wall about eight feet high in diaper bond with stone coping. East side has hipped tiled dormer with nine-paned sash and three early C19 sash windows. Central range is of higher elevation , rendered to north and east fronts. North front has two hipped dormers with left side six-pane sash and right side casement. East gable-fronted with carved bargeboards, 12-pane sash to attic, three 12-pane sashes to first floor and French windows to ground floor. West front has hipped roof and was refronted in red brick to ground floor and tile-hung to first floor with five-light bay and a massive polygonal bay, with leaded lights. South elevation also tile-hung, mainly obscured by c1900 gabled extension of two bays, also red brick to ground floor and tile-hung above with leaded light windows and external chimneystack to south.
INTERIOR: C15 three bay building has central bay intact with moulded dais beam and sans purlin and crownpost roof with original collar, later heightened at the ridge. This building was extended to the north in the C16 with jowled posts (later infilled with C18 diagonal braces), chamfered beams with lambs tongue stops, tie beams and wide floorboards. The ceiling was raised at a later date but the collar rafter roof survives. C17 wing added to south (now central range) retains large fireplace on ground floor, C17 brickwork to chimneystack, and chamfered beams uncovered during building works to the first floor east room. C18 work includes the probable heightening of the roof, the winder staircase added to the attic, the blocked brick fireplace to the central first floor east room and lath and plaster partitions. Early C19 French windows to east and west retain folding wooden shutters. West room has cornice with acanthus leaf, east room has a wide cornice with honeysuckle motif, square paterae to the corners, ovolo moulding and deep skirting board. C1900 front hall with elliptical ceiling with ribs of interlocking circles and four pilasters, bolection-moulded fireplace to C17 opening, panelling, round-headed openings with impost blocks, staircase and fireplaces including wooden fireplace with half-columns and Delft tiled surround and smaller wooden fireplace with tiled surround.
