226 The Strand, City of Westminster.
House, now shop with offices above. C.1820. Narrow five storey stock brick front with stone cills and parapet coping. 6/6 sash windows to 4th, 3rd, and upper part of 2nd floor windows' large plate glass opening to first floor. Modern shop front to ground floor. Original staircase with columnar newel posts survives from 2nd floor up. A rare survival of a pre-Victorian building on the Strand still occupying a narrow burgage plot. In 1840 this housed the Temple Bar Tea Warehouse.
