2 houses now shop. c1808-1832 with later additions and
alterations including mid-C19 shop front. Brownish-red brick
in Flemish bond, painted to ground floor, with red brick
arches and stone sills; slate roof and truncated brick stacks
to left and right.
PLAN: occupies a corner site, with splayed angle. 3 storeys,
1+1 first-floor windows. First floor has 8/8 flush sash and
4/4 flush sash to angle, both with sills, that to angle has
flat brick arch. Ground-floor shop front to left has renewed
pilasters and fascia; 2-light window with rounded mullions,
then step to renewed part-glazed door with overlight,
architrave has sunk panels. Further entrance to right a
renewed part-glazed door with overlight in timber doorcase.
Canted shop front to angle has columnar mullions with shaped
caps and frieze between plain pilasters and with shaped
corbels and cornice. Second floor has a 4/4 and a 2/2 flush
sash. Toothed eaves band. Right return: renewed plate-glass
window to ground floor; blocked window with inserted light to
first floor; 3/3 sash to second floor; ground- and first-floor
openings have cambered arches.
INTERIOR: retains timber partition and winder stair to right
part. Otherwise not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: not shown on Young's Map of 1808 but shown on
Clements's Map of 1832.
Occupies an important site at corner with College Precincts
adjoining Nos. 1 and 2 (qv), and forms part of the setting for
Worcester Cathedral (qv). (Young G: Map of Worcester: London:
1808-; Clements J: A Plan of the City and Environs of
Worcester: Worcester: 1832-).
