GV II

House, now inn. Early/mid C18 with later additions and
alterations, including C20 attic dormers. Stuccoed and
whitewashed brick with plain tile roof and 2 right end stacks.
2 storeys with attics, 4 first-floor windows with extension to
rear. Chamfered plinth. Entrance at left: step to 6-panel
door, the upper four panels raised and fielded, the lower
panels flush beaded; fanlight; in plain eveals. Ground floor
has two 4/1 horned sashes, the lower lights have etched glass.
Remains of first-floor band. First floor has four 9/9 sashes
in near-flush frames and with chamfered sills. Eaves band and
modillion cornice. Box attic dormers with casement windows.
Right return: further entrance in gable end, a 3-long-panel
door. To first floor a multi-pane window. Rear has two 8/8
sashes and one 4/4 sash.
INTERIOR: dog-leg staircase has 2 rod-on-vase balusters per
tread with shaped and wreathed handrail; carved tread ends.
Front room has raised and fielded panelling, with panelled
cupboard doors with H-hinges to either side of fireplace, the
cupboard to left side is larger. Shaped cornice.
Occupies a site on the corner of Fish Street and Deansway and
frames the view to the Cathedral (qv).
