Bank, now shops and offices. Bank opened 1761, with later
additions and alterations including c1980s ground floor shop
fronts. Reddish-orange brick in Flemish bond with ashlar quoins,
sills, architraves, keystones, cornice and copings; concealed
roof, tall brick stacks with cornices, some with pots. EXTERIOR;
3 storeys, 2:1:2 first floor windows. Central breakforward with
pediment in parapet. Horizontal rustication remains to ends of
ground floor, continuous first-floor sill band. End quoins from
first through second floors, rusticated pilasters to
breakforward; modillion cornice. Coped parapet. 1/1 horned sashes
in plain reveals throughout, those to outer bays are segmental
arched and with keystones, those to second floor have moulded
sills, that to first-floor centre bay has eared architrave,
pulvinated frieze and dentil cornice, that to second-floor centre
bay has eared architrave with raised centre. Parapet has sunk
panels over outer windows. Ground floor: renewed rustication
between shops, otherwise plate glass shop fronts, all renewed.
Left return: 3 storeys, 12 first-floor windows. Quoins at right
end. Ground floor has rusticated, drawn into voussoirs over
windows; continuous first-floor sill band. Ground floor has
round-arched windows, 1/1 horned sashes. First and second floors
have 1/1 segmental-arched horned sashes with segmental arches and
keystones, all in plain reveals and those to second floor with
moulded sills; the fourth window has pedimented stuccoed
surround. Modillion cornice and coped parapet. To left end a
loading bay; off-centre left entrance a
6-raised-and-fielded-panel door with fanlight; further entrance,
steps to glazed door with fanlight.
INTERIOR: retains original joinery and plasterwork including
moulded cornices. Nos 62 to 65 (consecutive) (qqv) form a group
of late C18 properties.
