House, now shop. C17 with facade probably c1750 with additions of
1796 and later alterations including ground floor shop fronts
c1980s. Probably timber-framed, rebuilt in pinkish-brown brick in
Flemish bond with flat arches of red brick (colourwashed), plain
tile roof. 4 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. First and second
floors have 6/6 sashes, third floor has 3/3 sashes, all in near
flush frames and with sills. Ground floor: glazed shop front and
glazed entrance.
INTERIOR: Hughes notes four visible C17 roof trusses and double
purlins, centre truss closed, the others with interrupted
tie-beam. South truss contains peg holes for 5 studs, indicating
that the building was timber-framed. Indications of
timber-framing to third floor. Mid-C18 staircase.
HISTORIC NOTE: the rear range was added in 1796 when the premises
were owned by a pastry cook.
