Detached house, reputed to be the last house to be completed in
the Crescent. 1845-68 with later additions and alterations.

gables with stucco end stacks, that to left has recessed panel;
no pots. Wrought-iron grilles, railings and gate to basement
areas. Cast-iron screen to porch. Double-depth plan with side
entrance. 2-storeys and basement. 4 first-floor windows (2:2).
Stucco lined to represent ashlar, detailing includes porch to
left return, plinth, first-floor sill band, corbel bracket to
eaves at each gable, shouldered and eared architraves to all
windows, those to first-floor are moulded; moulded cornices on
console brackets to ground-floor windows which are 4/4 extending
down to floor-level; first-floor are 2/2; all sills are stooled.
2 basement windows to left are 12-pane iron-framed with segmental
heads, top centre 2-lights on horizontal pivot; 2 windows to
right are replacement single-pane timber frame; all in individual
light-wells with hinged grilles. Stucco detailing continues on
left return; left of centre is porch of 2 square, panelled
columns and matching pilasters carrying semi-circular arches with
moulded architraves, keystone to N. arch, triangular inset panels
to spandrels; archways to N. and W. are open, that to E. infilled
with ornamental scrolled grille over masonry, later 2-pane
margin-glazed window to outer face of grille has obscure and
coloured glass. 3-panel door, glass over pair of flush-beaded

vertically boarded doors under segmental arch into basement.
Railings and matching gate to steps. Right-return is blank red
brick. Rear of house is 2-storey painted brick outshut with 6/6
and 1/1 sashes in plain reveals with sills, ground-floor windows
have flat gauged brick arches. Interior retains original features
including panelled doors and shutters, architraves, skirtings and
picture rails, plaster cornices and ceiling centres, marble
fireplaces. Single-storey brick and slate service range to rear
south has side-hung casements and boarded door.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Because of their elevated position, vehicular
access to these houses could only be from the east via Lansdowne
Crescent Lane; this introduced a degree of formality to what
would normally be the rear elevation. The 1886 O.S. map shows Nos
10 and 14 (qqv) as exceptions with carriage drives from the west
off Lansdowne Crescent. Nos. 1-15 (consecutive) and 17 and 18
Lansdowne Crescent (qqv) form a good group of listed buildings
comparing well with other developments of this period in
Worcester such as Britannia Square, Lark Hill, and Rainbow Hill
Terrace (qqv).
