Pair of houses forming part of terrace. c1830-50 with later
additions and alterations. Painted stucco over brick; roof
concealed by coped parapet; end stacks, that to left has
oversailing details and pots. Wooden porch with wrought-iron
screen panel to left house; wooden balcony on cast-iron
pillars with wrought-iron embellishments to right-hand house.
Wooden door surround to both houses.
Double-depth with adjacent entrance halls.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement, 5 (3:2) second-floor
windows, 3 (2:1) first-floor windows, 3 (2:1) ground-floor
windows. Stucco detailing includes plinth, full-width band
above second-floor windows, plain architrave to ground-floor
window of right-hand house.
Left-hand house: windows are 6/6 sashes except second-floor
which are 3/6, all in plain reveals with sills. 6-steps to
Doric-style porch, geometric pattern decorative open screen to
left side; 4-panel door, upper pair of panels and centre panel
raised and fielded, bottom panel flush-beaded; matching
panelled reveals; plain fanlight. 6/6 sash to basement.
Right-hand house: Second-floor windows are 2/2 unequal sashes.
Large semi-circular oriel window to first-floor has blind
recess to front flanked by French windows with margin-glazing;
these access balcony, part-supported on columns,
part-cantilevered; simple metal balustrade. 6/6 sash to ground
floor. 6 steps to entrance, 6-panel door, bottom panels
flush-beaded, upper 4 panels glazed, door visually divided to
look like pair by flush bead; panelled reveals and soffit;
doorcase has fluted pilasters and matching frieze. Decorative
open screen to left of door matches that of left-hand house;
spandrel brackets to balcony columns are to the same pattern.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining original features including
panelled doors and window shutters, skirtings and architraves,
plaster cornices; right house has scrolled cast-iron
balustrade to staircase and polychromatic ceramic floor tiles
to hall.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Nos 1-10 (consecutive) Rainbow Hill Terrace
(qqv) form a good group of listed buildings comparing well
with other developments of this period in Worcester such as
Britannia Square, Lansdowne Crescent, and Lark Hill (qqv).
