House, now restaurant with flat over. C16/17 with later additions
and alterations including refacing and shop front of mid C19.
Timber frame with stucco infill and front facade, stone
architrave to entrance, and plain tile roof; 2 rear brick stacks.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3 first-floor windows with single-storey
entrance bay at left and range to rear. First floor has 6/6
sashes; second floor has 3/3 sashes; all in plain reveals and
with sills. Shop front has plate-glass windows and tiled aprons,
pilasters and continuous frieze and cornice; off-centre entrance
a part-glazed door. Further blocked entrance at left with round
arch.
Entrance to left: 6-panel door with overlight, segmental pediment
on console brackets with foliate motifs. Left gable end has
square panels of timber framing; rear retains extensive evidence
of timber framing including small square panels of frame, corner
posts and diagonal braces to gables; jetty over first floor at
rear.
INTERIOR: wall to right has small square panels of timber framing
at ground-floor; closed string, dogleg staircase with short
rod-on-vase balusters, shaped handrail. Fireplace to rear room
has massive timber bressumer with 2 levels of roll moulding and
one level of hollow moulding. To front part the right wall has
large square panels of timber framing with diagonal braces.
Further fireplace with chamfered bressumer beam. Further posts
remain though the framing has been removed. Hall to left retains
mosaic and Minton tile floor.
Nos 26-34 (even) Sidbury (qqv) form a group with Nos 2-16
(consecutive) Edgar Street (qqv).
