Upper terrace & water parterre in
garden at Moor Close inc. steps &
walls

Part of larger garden at Moor Close (qv). Stone terrace with
steps and walls and water parterre. 1911 by Oliver Hill. This
terrace adjoins house on south-west, south-east and north-east
sides. It is on several levels linked by stone steps and red
brick retaining walls. Water parterre is on lowest level and
formed with several different shaped pools each surrounded by
York stone slabs. Flight of 5 stone steps on right and flight
of 7 stone steps on left, both rectangular, lead to upper
level. 3 semicircular flights of 6:4:5 stone steps lead out of
terrace on south-west side. Upper level of terrace which
formerly contained sunken garden has stone base for statue in
centre, statue missing. Opposite this on either side is a
fight of 4 and 7 stone steps on the left leading out of
terrace, and 2 shallow steps on the right leading to the paved
area immediately adjoining the house. A further flight of 4
steps in the north-west corner leads to the pergola and court
(qv).
