Formerly known as: Nupton House.
Hall house, now large house. Early C15, altered and extended
C18 and C20.
MATERIALS: part timber frame with painted brick infill, part
painted in Flemish bond, part painted roughcast. Old tile
hipped and half hipped roof.
PLAN: Central hall of 3 framed bays with 3 framed bay
crosswing on left and crosswing on right, probably of 3 framed
bays but much altered.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 3 large chimneys with clay pots, 2 are
C17 and one is C18. Sash windows with glazing bars with
architraves, some moulded. C20 French casement doors with
glazing bars on garden elevation. Garden front has 3-bay
centre section, French casement doors on ground floor. Single
bay projecting gables to crosswings on either side. This front
was former entrance front. Entrance now at rear.
INTERIOR: much of timber frame exposed. Joists in inserted
floor in centre section have chamfers with shield stops.
Joists in crosswing are plain. Heavy arch braces to tie beams
and wall plates. Large inglenook fireplace in dining room.
