School House and railings with gate
GV II
Schoolmaster and caretakers house, now 2 houses. 1870,
extended late C20.
MATERIALS: part red brick in English bond, part patterned
tile-hung. Plain tile gabled roof.
PLAN: rectangular plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with first floor jettied out over ground
floor in 2 gables. Weathered and moulded plinth, coved eaves.
2 large chimneys with multiple hexagonal shafts with corniced
heads and tall clay louvred pots. Casement window with glazing
bars. Road front, south, symmetrical. 2 gables each with
4-light oriel window with coved support to sill and coved
fascia at head, the whole width. Gables project with moulded
fascia and carved wooden brackets in centre and at each end.
Canted 4-light bay window under each with leaded top-lights
and moulded brick sill. Hipped entrance porch on either side
of gable in angle, with turned wooden newels and balusters in
brick dado wall. Deep frieze above balusters of similar
pattern. Plain planked entrance doors. No.2 on right has C20
extension set back at right in similar style.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Railings run across whole width with gate in centre. Iron,
plain, with rounded tops. Fluted iron gate posts with moulded
heads.
