RAYNHAM

109/1/10015 THE STREET West Raynham Elaboratedly coped wall to former Grey hound Public House and St Margaret's C hurch

GV II Boundary wall. Mid C19. Random laid flint with brick dressings. Low wall running a straight course with a short return to north at western edge of a driveway. It then continues after a gap as the south wall of the church yard. Both sections of the wall have a very bold and unusual moulded brick coping of opposing ogee curves surmounted by a roll moulding. Both sections have group value with the adjacent ruined Church of St.Margaret (q.v.), and also Nos. 24-28 The Street (q.v.) and The Post Office (q.v.) opposite. This wall is of special interest for its striking elaborate coping which is probably re-used from a taller demolished wall at Raynham Park. It is also part of a significant group with other mid and late C19 cottages opposite which are also examples of buildings on the Raynham estate.
