GV II

Former boathouse, later converted into three houses. Built in 1882 as the boathouse to the East Cowes Coastguard Station. Later C20 refenestration and extension. Gothic style. Built of yellow brick in Flemish bond with red brick lintels and slate roof with yellow brick chimneystacks. Asymmetrical building of one to two storeys, part with attic, and irregular fenestration of pointed arched sash windows, many now replaced in uPVC. The north western elevation has a projecting gable with kneelers, a triple window to first floor and wide ground floor arch, originally for boat storage, the opening now filled-in and a window inserted. The return to the right side of this gable also has a projecting gable with single light window to the first floor and later bay to ground floor, inserted when a lean-to concrete extension was added. To the south west are two one storey gables with wide arches below, originally used for boat storage but filled in and windows inserted in the later C20. There is a further one storey range to the north west with end gables and some altered windows. This former boathouse is included for group value. This former boathouse is an important element of the 1882 coastguard station and groups with the coastguard cottages, former officers house and former washhouse.
